About this site

Website features

Here's everything kmceagles.org does. Players can start with the User guide, and our leadership with the Pages CMS guide.

Schedule and calendars

  • Schedule in five views

See the schedule as an agenda or by day, week, month or year. Filter it by team and open any event for its details. Once you're logged in, the calendar marks each of your events In, Out, not answered, waiting list or sub.

  • Calendar subscriptions

The club's calendar and each team's, which people subscribe to in Apple, Google or Outlook Calendar. While it's off, the Subscribe buttons go, and a calendar someone subscribed to already shows one note saying it's turned off in place of the events; the events come back by themselves when you turn it on again. A member's own calendar in Settings stays.

  • Event pages

Every practice and game has its own page with the time, rink, directions, notes and final score, a calendar file for that event, and a preview picture for when you share the link.

  • A Schedule that opens quickly

The Schedule opens with the next two weeks or more, so it stays quick on a phone however many teams we have. Later months come one at a time as you move to them, and the months you've looked at stay on your phone for a rink without a signal.

  • League, playoff, cup or friendly

Each game is marked as a league, playoff, cup or friendly game: a league game by default for a team in a division, and a cup game for a tournament. Each team then has two records, one of its league games only and one of every game; the season recap names the playoff results, and head-to-head marks which games were friendlies.

  • Events abroad, on their own clocks

A tournament or a trip in another time zone shows its times on the local clocks, with the zone's short name (GMT, EST) and the time at home beside them. Its calendar entry, reminders and answer-by time follow the same clocks. Our admins set the time zone of a rink abroad, and your coaches can set one for a single event.

  • Rinks and directions

Each venue has a page with its address, a map and directions, and the emergency number in Europe, 112.

  • Printable schedule

Print the filtered schedule with times, rinks and addresses.

Attendance

  • Logging in

You log in with the email address we have for you, using a passkey (face, fingerprint or screen lock), a six-digit code by email, or your Google or GitHub account. There are no passwords. Settings › Sign-in lists your passkeys, linked accounts and every phone or computer you're logged in on, and logs out the others.

  • In or Out

Log in once on each phone with a passkey, a code sent to your email, or Google or GitHub, then answer In or Out for every practice, game and tournament. You can add a note for the team, for example that you're running late. Anyone who hasn't answered is listed as Awaiting response.

  • Notes on answers

A short note beside In or Out, such as "late, from work".

  • Maybe

A third answer beside In and Out, for players who can't say yet.

  • Who is coming

Every event card shows how many players are In and Out and, once you're logged in, your own answer. The event's players, every coach and our admins also see the names, the notes and who hasn't answered yet.

  • Your events

Your events, the first tab of the Schedule once you're logged in, lists your practices, games and tournaments, with filters, a calendar view and a way to answer several at once.

  • Your own pages

Your Inbox, your profile, your stats, your dues and your settings are in one place, under You in the menu, together with the group chats of your teams and the club. Once you're logged in, your photo or initials open the menu, and a red number beside them counts what needs your attention, such as unread notices and events you haven't answered.

  • Pages that keep up

The Schedule, Your events and every event page keep up with changes while you have them open. When a coach adds or moves an event, it appears, and answers, sub offers, rides and comments show within about twenty seconds, with no need to reload the page. A change you make in another tab shows at once.

  • Markers on event cards

Small symbols on the cards of coming events show at a glance what each event has, such as notes, comments, rides, duties and the line-up. Point at or tap a symbol for a short explanation; a red number counts what is new since the member last looked.

  • Feedback and bug reports

Members send us ideas, bug reports and feedback, with a screenshot.

  • Testimonials from members

Members write a testimonial for the public pages, and one of our admins publishes it.

  • The reminder banner

A gold banner at the top of every page lists the events a member still has to answer. When there are none, it tells them about overdue dues, a new announcement, a poll or subs wanted. Each team's coaches can also choose it for their own team in Team settings.

  • Notifications on phones and computers

Members get reminders before their events, and the notices they choose, as notifications on their phones and computers. A reminder about one event has In and Out buttons, so they can answer without opening the website.

  • Members' own time zones

Members who live or travel elsewhere choose their own time zone in Settings. Their quiet hours and daily summary then follow it, and, if they wish, so do the event times they see.

  • Away dates

Members tell us when they're away, and are Out for those days.

  • Subs

Players offer to sub for other teams; coaches ask for subs and approve the offers.

  • Player of the game

After a game, the players who came vote for the best player among them.

  • Milestones

We note a player's milestones, such as a fifth season with the club or a first goal, on their profile, and send one short notice to their team.

  • Duties

Jobs at each event, such as bringing drinks or pucks, which players take in turn; coaches can add their own.

  • Team kitty

A team's kitty: contributions, small fines and spending, kept by the team's kitty keepers.

  • Player limits and waiting lists

The most players an event can take, with a waiting list for the rest.

  • Answer-by times

Coaches can set a time before each event when answers close. After that time, a player who says In waits for a coach to approve it. Nothing changes until a time is set for the club, a team or an event.

  • Skate sharpening

Who brings a sharpener, and who needs their skates done.

  • Rides

Drivers offer seats and players ask for a ride.

  • Comments

A short thread under each practice, game and tournament, and who may write in it.

  • Replies to comments

A Reply under each comment, so that members answer a comment where it is, and the person answered hears of it. Off, there is no Reply and each new comment stands on its own; the replies already written stay under their comments.

  • Gear exchange

Members buy, sell and give away gear.

  • Polls

Questions to a team or the whole club.

  • The members' home page

Once logged in, each member has a home page of their own: their next event with In and Out, what waits for them, their next two weeks, their teams and their season. Coaches also see the Coaches' desk, and admins the Admin desk, with their teams' next events and the club's open tasks.

  • Inbox

Announcements from your coaches and the club, and our notices about your events, subs, rides, polls, dues, group chats and your profile, all in one place with what still needs an answer. It's laid out like an email inbox, by day. Each notice is one line that opens where it is and is then marked read, and a red number beside Inbox counts the notices you haven't read.

  • What's new in the Inbox

After we add something to the website, each member it concerns finds a short note about it in their Inbox, once.

  • Group chats

Links to the teams' and the club's group chats.

  • Personal calendars

Each member gets a private calendar link for the calendar app on their phone or computer, with only their own events, each titled with their answer: In, Out or Answer needed.

  • Rink mode

From three hours before an event, phones save the event's details so they open at a rink without a signal. Entries in the game sheet, Who came and Check in are sent when the signal returns.

  • Your profile

Change your photo, nickname, positions and the rest of your profile yourself, or ask our admins, as the club decides. A line at the top says which applies, and a field with a different rule says so. A change you've asked for shows under its field until an admin decides. The Save button works once you've changed something. If the club collects them, you can also add your phone number and birthday, which only you, your coaches and our admins see.

  • Your public profile, your choice

Choose how your profile shows on the public site: in full, with only your name, number and position, or not at all. We record your choice, and your teammates still see you on the members' pages.

  • Club documents

The rules, insurance and forms, for members to read and download.

  • Emergency contacts

Each member adds someone to call if they're hurt at the rink, and at an event its coaches see the contacts of the players who said In.

  • Leaving the club

Members give their last day and a farewell for their profile. We tell their coaches, set their later events to Out, and mark them as having left the day after.

  • Playing next season?

The form that asks each player about next season.

  • Your data

Download everything we keep about you in one file, or delete your login and data yourself, under Settings.

  • In or Out from the notification

A reminder about one event carries In and Out buttons, so you can answer without opening the website.

  • Notifications your way

For each kind of notice, choose the Inbox, a notification, or both, or turn it off. Add a daily summary each evening, and if you're on more than one team, choose which teams you hear about. Sign-in alerts always reach your Inbox.

  • Notification presets

Members set every kind of notice at once in Settings: Everything, Just my events or Inbox only.

  • Tournaments with several games

A tournament's page lists its games with their times, opponents and scores, and each game has a page of its own, like any other game: its times, rink and notes, its line-up and game sheet, its player of the game and its comments. You answer once for the whole tournament, and each game counts in the season's records, stats and head-to-head.

  • Help wanted

Duties open to the whole club, such as the timekeeper at home games, which any member may take.

Teams and players

  • Team pages

Each team page shows the roster by position, upcoming games, results, the league table, season stats, the bench staff and the team's own calendar.

  • Searchable rosters

Find a player, filter by position and sort by number or name on every team page.

  • League roster

The League roster page: every current player and coach in one table, which visitors and members search, narrow to a team or position and sort. The team pages keep their own rosters either way.

  • Player profiles and cards

Each profile shows the player's position, number, hometown and career with the club, with a trading card to download or print.

  • Leadership

The Leadership page with the board and each team's coaches and captains. While it's off, the Club page still shows the board.

  • Newest Eagles

The latest players to join the club.

Club and heritage

  • The club

This page covers who plays, how the club is run, the home rink and the club in numbers.

  • Heritage

The club's history chapter by chapter, and the Heritage pages: every title, the retired numbers and the memorial to A1C Cuddeback. While it's off, the Heritage menu at the top of every page goes too.

Joining and contact

  • Join the Eagles

Learn who can play, when practices are held, what it costs, what gear you need and how attendance works.

  • User guide

The User guide explains every part of this website, with a shorter guide for players, for coaches and for club admins.

  • One contact form

One form covers joining, roster updates, schedule questions, media requests, volunteering and feedback. Each choice shows only the fields it needs, and you see a confirmation after every message.

  • Media pack

The Media pack page, with the club's facts, logos, colors and photos for the press.

On every page

  • One menu

One button at the top of every page opens the menu: search, the club's sections and, once you're logged in, what's waiting for you and all your own pages. On a phone it fills the screen, and on a computer it opens at the side.

  • Search

Results for players, teams, rinks, events and pages appear as you type, grouped by kind, with filters, recent searches and the matching sections of long pages. Start from the top of the menu, or press / or Ctrl/⌘+K on a computer.

  • Translation

Sprache / Language at the foot of the menu, which translates the website with Google Translate. While it's off, the website shows in English only.

  • Light and dark

The website follows the light or dark setting of your phone or computer.

  • Installing as an app

The Install button at the top of every page, with the steps for each phone and computer, and the note in the Inbox that tells iPhone users to add the app to their home screen for notifications. While it's off, the website no longer offers to install itself, and apps already installed keep working.

  • The app on your phone

Once you've added the website to your home screen, saved rink cards open without a signal, reminders for events you're In for arrive as notifications, the app's icon counts what's waiting for you, and a long press on it opens Your events or your Inbox.

  • Tooltips

Point at, focus or tap a symbol, a badge, a More button, a tab, a column heading or an abbreviation such as GP or PIM for a short explanation. Members can turn the explanations and the round help buttons off in Settings.

  • Hover cards

The cards that appear when someone points at a player's name, an event, a rink, a team or another club. While they're off, nobody sees them, and Settings no longer offers them. While they're on, each member can still turn them off for themselves in Settings.

  • Accessible

We build and test the website to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard in both the light and dark themes, and you can use it with a keyboard throughout.

  • Private by design

There's no tracking and no consent banner. Names, notes and offers to sub show only to the event's players, every coach and our admins, and phone numbers and birthdays, where we keep them, only to the player, their coaches and our admins. Translation starts only when you choose a language.

For club leadership

  • Edited in Pages CMS

We edit the page text, news, photo galleries, videos and the club's information in Pages CMS, in plain forms with help under every field. Changes appear on the website in about two minutes.

  • Repeating events

One entry sets up the weekly practice. Every date gets its own page, calendar entry and attendance list. Holidays are skipped, and canceled dates are struck through.

  • Automatic updates

Records, stats, alumni, season maps, calendars and the next event all come from the schedule and rosters, and the whole website is brought up to date every night.

  • Safe editing

We keep every change. Entries that other pages depend on can't be deleted, and empty sections stay hidden until they have something in them.

  • The schedule, rosters and profiles on the website

Coaches add, change, cancel and score their own teams' events, and on Rosters, which has a tab for each team, they change the players, numbers, captains, and who is injured or has left. Admins do so for every team, add and change profiles and photos, and make the changes players ask for. Every page shows a change at once, and the website records who made it, just as it does for changes made in Pages CMS.

  • Rinks on the website

Coaches and admins add a rink, even from the event form while planning a game there, and change its address, map pin, time zone, notes and safety facts. The rink's page, the Rink map and the events there show the change at once. A rink nobody uses is deleted at once; a rink that events use is deleted once its events move to another.

  • Coach tools

On their own events, coaches can enter answers for players who replied another way, add players from other teams as guests, see who has offered to sub, and ask for subs. Admins can do the same on every event.

  • Set answers for players

Under Coach tools on each event, its coaches and our admins answer In, Out or Maybe for a player who told them another way or who can't log in yet, and take an answer back. The answer then shows who set it, and the player hears of it.

  • Call up a player

On an event's page, its coaches add a player from another team, or one not yet on a team, to that one event under Coach tools › Call up a player. The player hears of it, answers In or Out like the team's own players, and shows as a sub from their team.

  • Changes to an event

Under Coach tools on each event's page, every change to the event since it was added: what changed, who made it and when, on the website or in Pages CMS.

  • Line-ups

The coach's line-up, published for the players.

  • Build the line-up

One press fills the spots in the line-up from the players who said In, by their positions and shooting side: Balanced lines, Strongest first, Fair ice time, or Random by position, which draws new lines at random each time while keeping every player at their position. It fills the empty spots only or starts again, as the coach chooses. Each team chooses the way it starts with. It stays a draft until the coach publishes it.

  • Faces in the line-up

Each player in the line-up shows their photo, or their initials. The coaches tap it for the player's profile, their answer and note for the game, and their games, goals, assists and points this season.

  • Sharing to the team chat

From an event's page, coaches post to the team chat: Share reminder sends a picture of who still has to answer, Post to the team chat sends the line-up, and Share the trip sends a tournament's plans as a message. A shared link opens the full list until three days after the event.

  • Answer sub offers

Coaches add, put on standby or decline each offer to sub, on the event's page, on their home page or right in their Inbox. Players hear at once. A standby ends by itself at the time set in the team's settings. No subs needed thanks everyone who offered and closes the event to new offers.

  • Reminders from coaches

Coaches send "Are you In?" at once to the players still to answer, at most every 12 hours.

  • Final score from the game sheet

When the game sheet is marked final, its score becomes the game's final score.

  • Goalie needed

When too few goalies are In by a set time before a game or tournament (practices too, if a team chooses), the website asks the club's free goalies to play. They answer I can play or Not this time from the notification or their Inbox. Those who don't answer are asked once more, and the coaches hear if there's still no goalie. A team can also let the first goalie to offer be added at once, with the others on standby.

  • Skater subs

A team sets how many skaters its events need. When fewer are In by a set time before an event, the website asks other teams' players to sub, tells the players who offered in their Settings to sub for that kind of event, and stops once enough are In.

  • Guests from outside the club

Coaches add a guest to one event by name only, with no profile or login.

  • Announcements to members

Coaches post announcements to their teams, and our admins to any team or the whole club. Members read them in their Inbox, and whoever posts one sees who has read it. The announcement bar at the top of every page stays, whether this is on or off.

  • Roster columns, saved views and All teams

Coaches and club admins can show any field of a profile as a column of their rosters, from the position to the emergency contact. The website remembers their columns on every phone and computer they log in on, and they can save, share, print or download each view. All teams lists every player and coach this season in the same way, to find, filter, sort, call, message on WhatsApp, copy the emails, download as a spreadsheet or contact cards, or print.

  • Add players and coaches

A page of its own to add players to a team's roster, with their usual number filled in, and for club admins to name the coaches.

  • Everyone

One list of everyone on the site, the last choice on Rosters for club admins: each person's profile and photo, their places on this season's rosters and their login, all in one form. Admins add people with the email they log in with (a new player's profile, team and login in one step), invite them on WhatsApp, log a member out everywhere after a lost phone, and archive people who have left without losing their history. Coaches see who can log in on their roster and invite their own players.

  • Team managers and a treasurer

Helpers who aren't admins: a team manager does for their teams what a coach does, as far as our admins allow, and the treasurer keeps the club dues. When this is off, they can do only what any member can, and their roles come back when it's turned on again.

  • Profiles by the club's rules

Admins decide, for each part of the profile, whether players change it themselves, ask an admin for the change, or leave it to admins, and whether the club keeps phone numbers and birthdays. Coaches see their players' numbers and birthdays on the roster, with a link to chat, and can download the numbers for their phone's contacts.

  • Notices for coaches

Coaches hear of late Outs, of events with few players In a day before, of duties and line-up spots handed back, of things to finish and of their players' birthdays.

  • Profile change requests

Members ask for changes to the parts of their profile that only our admins may change, and our admins accept or decline each one on Requests. When this is off, members can't ask, and only our admins change those parts.

  • Confirm it's you

Before coaches, admins, team managers and the treasurer download contact details, change a member's email or role, or delete a member, they confirm it's them with a passkey, a code by email, Google or GitHub, once every ten minutes. A lost or borrowed phone can't take everyone's details away.

  • Former members' details expire

Six months after a member's login closes (or 3, 12 or 24, as the club chooses), we delete their email, linked accounts, passkeys, private details and settings by ourselves. Their profile and seasons stay among the former Eagles.

  • The club's activity

A record, in Club setup › Activity, of what our admins, coaches, team managers and the treasurer change, and of what the website changes by itself in members' accounts. When this is off, nothing new is recorded, and the existing record stays until it expires.

  • What gets used

Beside each feature on this page, how much it was used this season and the share of members who have notifications on. We count once a day from what the website already saves; we don't count page views or record anyone's name.

  • Emergency contacts at the rink

Under Coach tools on each event, the coaches see the emergency contact of every player who said In, with a button to call.

  • Games played in the line-up

Each player in the line-up shows their games played this season, so the coaches can rotate fairly when a game is full.

  • Get set up

On a new member's home page, the steps that make the website work for them: a passkey, notifications, their public profile, a photo and the rest.

  • Club setup

Admins choose the club's time zone and currency; change each team's name, division, description and usual duties, arrive time and player limit; add a team, or delete one with its events, rosters and records after seeing in numbers what goes and what stays; ask who is playing next season, then add the next season with each team's roster carried over, leaving off those not playing; set the rules for the profiles; and keep the links to the club's and the teams' group chats. Every page shows the change at once.

  • Publish saved changes together

Changes saved on the website, such as a season of games, are published together ten minutes after the last one, instead of one at a time. Either way, members see each change on the members' pages straight away; the public pages update when the changes are published.

  • Setup checklist

Each step of setting up the website with the club's own accounts, with a check that each one works. When this is off, our webmasters still see the section that shows whether the website is working.

  • A website that watches itself

Once an hour, the website checks that it is working properly: the timer that sends reminders, the latest update to the website and the live site after it, the weekly backup (and that it opens), email, the website's access keys to GitHub and Cloudflare before they expire, and the free usage limits of the services the website runs on. Our two webmasters hear of each problem in their Inbox, by email when it stops notifications or lasts a day, and again when it's back to normal. It never counts visits or people.

  • Email the webmasters when the site fails

Our two webmasters get an email when the timer that sends reminders stops, when their own phones or computers stop accepting our notifications, or when a problem lasts more than a day. When this is off, the emails stop, but the webmasters still get the same notices in their Inbox.

  • The club's year

On the day of each yearly job, such as asking who's playing next season, our admins are told, with a button to the tool.

  • Find returning players

On Requests, we match a sign-up from someone who played for us before to their old profile, and our admins bring them back with their history in one step.

  • New players' inquiries and sign-ups

New players sign up to play on the website, and their sign-ups and the contact form's inquiries to join wait for our admins on Requests, who add each one in one step.
